Laureate: Michael Bloomberg
Mayor Michael Bloomberg asked The Genesis Prize Foundation to use his $1 million award to initiate the Genesis Generation Challenge, a global competition to advance the Jewish value of tikkun olam and promote better, healthier living across the globe.
Teams of young adults proposed projects, driven by Jewish values, that would measurably benefit the world. More than 100 teams from around the globe submitted project ideas, and a 52-judge Evaluation Panel scored the applications based on four criteria. A five-member Genesis Prize Foundation Selection Committee chose nine winning teams representing eight countries.
The grant recipients included:

- Building Up (Canada)
- eNable 3D Printed Prosthetic (Haiti)
- LAVAN (Israel)
- Prize4Life (Israel)
- Sanergy (Kenya)
- Sesame (Israel)
- Spark (Burundi)
- Vera Solutions (United States and India)
